Jamie Murray has highlighted one thing that Carlos
Alcaraz has done, but his brother
Andy Murray couldn’t during his playing days,
which he ‘regretted’ as well. Andy retired from professional tennis in 2024
after representing his country in the Paris Olympics.
On the other hand, Alcaraz arrived in London to feature
in the upcoming Queen’s Club Championships after a bit of vacation in Ibiza
following his incredible triumph at the
French Open, where he defeated Jannik
Sinner in an epic five-set thriller with a score of 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6. Jamie
has recently spoken to The Tennis Podcast, where he highlighted that his brother
Andy regrets not taking a break after any big win, something which Alcaraz does
to create a ‘good balance’ in life.
“I like the way he [Alcaraz] does it,” said Jamie. “In
tennis, the season is so long, and there’s so many events to play that, you
know, it’s easy to have your success and immediately start looking to the next
event and preparing for that, and actually not taking the time to enjoy your
success in that moment. I think Andy, at times, regretted that when he looked
back, he’s like, I wish I’d enjoyed that moment more. And, you know, I’m glad
that he’s enjoying his time in the moment that it has come for him. And I think
that’s a good kind of life balance, right?”
Jamie then spoke about the buzz around Alcaraz’s arrival to
play at the Queen’s Club Championships. The 39-year-old also called Alcaraz ‘the
most popular player’ in men’s tennis right now. “The fact that Carlos [Alcaraz]
is here now, he’s on-site hitting just now actually, is a big thing for the
tournament,” said Jamie. “He, I think, is the most popular player on the tour
right now, regardless of ranking. I think for us to have him here will be a
huge buzz for the event and just around the grounds in general over the next
few days.”
